Great Local Hiking Trails
Here are two web sites to find information about local trails:
- Marshall Mesa
Easy: flat, 1.5+ miles, 1+ hours
Trailhead: Marshall Mesa (on Marshall Dr, just east of Hwy 93)
Enjoy prairie flora and fauna with great views of Boulder from the south. A variety of loops and out-and-backs leave from this trailhead, with several dog- and mountain-bike-friendly options.
- Royal Arch Loop
Moderate: hilly, 4 miles, 2-3 hours
Trailhead: Chautauqua Park (near Baseline and 9th)
Visit a natural rock arch with spectacular views of Boulder and the Flatirons. From Ranger Cottage, head up the fire road to Bluebell Shelter, then look for the turn off.
- Mount Sanitas Summit
Difficult: steep, 3 miles, 2-3 hours
Trailhead: Centennial (on Mapleton, west of 4th)
Start up the western ridge, or the gravel trail up the valley to the east, but either way will wind up the hill and bring you to the summit with incredible views.
